This is Jessica's Story
and she loved to go camping at the Poconos whenever she had the chance. Jessica just loved to cook and was looking forward to attending culinary school one day. Our beautiful Jessicas kindness and goodness is immeasurable. She is the heart of our family. She is a beloved daughter, sister, granddaughter, Her energy and love for life is just infectious. As you may already know, our Jessica was involved in a terrible automobile accident on March 23, 2005 which has left her paralyzed from the chest down. However, in the five years since her accident, Jessica has made remarkable progress in her recovery.
After spending several weeks in Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, Jessica was transferred to Magee Rehabilitation Hospital which is also located in Philadelphia until her release on July 7, 2005.
Jessica returned to Hamilton High West in the fall of 2005 and recieved her High School equivalency diploma in April 2008. She is planning on continuing her education in the field of Psychology or web graphic design. Jessica is currently a peer mentor volunteer at Magee Rehabilitation Hospital in Philadelphia. Please look thru this website to see all that Jessica has been up to the last five years and also you will learn ways to help some of Jessica’s causes that are very dear to her heart. "JESSICA'S TABS FOR PHILADELPHIA SHRINERS HOSPITAL DRIVE" Here's the answer, save them and donate them to the Shriners' hospital for children. Everyday, over $1.6 million is spent to operate the 22 Shriners Hospitals through North America and here's a way for us to help that doesn’t even cost a dime extra. Jessica was introduced and sponsored by a Shriner over 4 years ago. She was receiving treatment and therapy from Shriners cost free until she reached the age of 21. insurance. Lets do our part to help them!!! The tabs are sent to a collection site, weighed and money is earned per pound. The money is used to help the patients. So, the next time you take a sip from a can containing the beverage of
your choice, be sure to think of how useful that tab on the top can be in supporting the Shriner’s Hospitals for Children. Up until Five years ago.......
Jessica was just an active teenager in her sophomore year of High School. She was a cheerleader for the Hamilton High Pop Warner.
She was a member of her schools drill team as well as a star T-Ballplayer.
She danced for the Dance Shop in downtown Hamilton,
aunt, niece, cousin, and friend.
During her stay at Magee, Jessica endured 8 hours a day, 6 days a week of intense physical therapy, as well as occupational and recreational therapy. As a result of this intense therapy, she has gained a great deal of upper body strength and was able to have a surgery called tendon Transfer Surgery. This surgery has given her increased strength in her arms and hands and with continued therapy, she will be able to use a manual wheelchair instead of the power chair she now uses. This surgery was made possible by The Shriners Hospital for Children in Philadelphia .
Although the surgery was a success, she still relies primarily on her power wheelchair to get around but is able to use a manual chair for short distances.
In the last few years Jessica has endured several more surgeries, not only to enhance her quality of life, but also to save her life.
Those pesky little tabs on every beverage can, what to do with them?
